About The Job We are growing our team and seeking an experienced Field Archaeologist for seasonal, as-needed work based primarily in the Pacific Northwest. The successful applicant will help lead cultural resources field investigations in the Pacific Northwest and work collaboratively with existing Dudek staff. Direct experience working across Oregon, Washington, and/or Idaho and western Montana is strongly desired, as well as the ability to travel and work outside of the local area, if required. The successful candidate would be based in our Portland or Seattle offices, preferably, or work remotely from eastern Oregon/Washington or Idaho.
Other aspects of the role important to note:
Per diem will be determined on a project-by-project basis.
Vehicles will be provided by Dudek.
Projects may require 10 hour days at 6 days per week.

Duties and Responsibilities (may include some or all of the below):
The applicant will implement archaeological survey, excavation, and monitoring projects under the direction of the principal investigator, responsibilities of which include:
direct fieldwork in-person and supervise field crews,
review the field crew’s daily logs and other field forms, notes, and collected GIS data for quality control,
assist with laboratory analysis for collected materials and coordinating with our laboratory manager for collections processing, analysis, and curation.
ensure field investigations stay on schedule and budget and follow the methods outlined in the project’s scope of work/research design
author technical reports,
assist with pre-field research and logistics,
assist with post-field data management and report preparation
The applicant will have excellent written and oral communication skills and will use these skills to work collaboratively with existing Dudek staff, organize and manage field crews, and oversee productive, efficient field investigations.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related field
Ability to clearly define and follow federal, state and local regulatory requirements
Ability to operate field equipment, including GPS equipment, cameras, and tablets
Ability to manage field crews and to logistically support project decisions
Excellent writing skills (writing samples will be requested)
Willingness and ability to travel to a project location for several consecutive days
Team-oriented attitude and approach
A valid driver’s license and active personal automobile liability insurance by first day of employment

Graduate degree (Master’s or Doctoral degree in archaeology or anthropology)
Meets the SOI’s Professional Qualifications Standards for Archaeology
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in cultural resource management, or equivalent experience in regulatory setting
Knowledge of the history, archaeology, and ethnography of the Pacific Northwest
Demonstrated laboratory and technical analysis expertise
Knowledge of and experience using ESRI ArcGIS Online and Field Maps
Physical Requirements Working Conditions:
This job operates in an outdoor or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
This job requires project site visits which are based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, moving vehicles and equipment.

Proposed Salary Range: $32 - $40 hourly* *Final agreed upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location.
