How You’ll Make an Impact
Dudek’s Habitat Restoration group is seeking a full-time intern who is a recent graduate or who is currently studying Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, or Natural Resources. An ideal candidate will contribute to and gain experience from Dudek’s qualified team to deliver quality work, build relationships, and engage in professional growth opportunities.   

A Habitat Restoration Intern may be responsible for supporting habitat restoration projects through field surveys, mapping, data collection, and analysis. This could include conducting site visits, drafting construction plans, and preparing summary reports with guidance from senior staff. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated interest in ecological restoration, environmental science, and native habitat management.  
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Field Surveys & Data Collection 
  • Assist with habitat assessments, vegetation mapping, and ecological monitoring in support of restoration projects. 
  • Collect and process field data using GPS, GIS, and environmental monitoring equipment. 
  • Collaborate with field teams to ensure data accuracy and consistency. 
  • Site Visits & Reporting 
  • Participate in site visits, documenting field conditions through photos, maps, and notes. 
  • Contribute to summary reports based on field observations and data analysis. 
  • Share findings with project managers and interdisciplinary teams. 
  • Habitat Restoration Planning & Implementation 
  • Support the development of habitat restoration plans via written or graphical components consistent with skills and experience. 
  • Provide intermittent support on field implementation activities, such as invasive species removal, native planting, and erosion control. 
  • Work alongside senior staff to ensure project objectives and environmental regulations are met. 
  • Project Coordination & Support 
  • Assist in tracking project progress, milestones, and resource needs. 
  • Maintain awareness of project scope, timelines, and budget considerations. 
  • Adhere to field safety protocols and participate in training as required. 

Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Natural Resources, or a related field. 
  • Coursework or prior internship experience related to ecological restoration, fieldwork, or environmental consulting. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by the first day of employment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with GIS tools (ArcGIS, Google Earth) and GPS data collection methods. 
  • Basic knowledge of native and invasive plant species and restoration techniques. 
  • Ability to interpret habitat restoration and construction plans. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team. 
  • Physically able to work outdoors in variable conditions. 
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field sites. 

Compensation: $21 - $25 hourly*
*Final agreed-upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location. Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check prior to beginning employment.

Environment
  • This job operates in a remote or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
  • This job may also require occasional project site visits, based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, and moving vehicles and equipment.
